New year, fresh start 2020 Nikon camera, cup of tea and a wooden spoon

Happy New Year friends!!  I hope you had a lovely and peaceful holiday break. It’s been a little quiet around here lately. Ordinarily I’d be right back into the swing of things by now but I’ve had a lot on my plate.  This means the blog had to be put on the back-burner for a moment.

When I first started my blog I thought it would be a fun way to document my veggie journey and a nice space to store all the yummy plant-based dishes I was creating.  I set myself a goal to post every week no matter what.  Prior to this I had zero social media presence and minimal interest in sharing myself with strangers in that way.  I was really rubbish at all the back end stuff (let’s be honest, I still am lol) and I had a lot of people around me who would roll their eyes and tell me I was wasting my time.

But over time I became more confident in my ability to create.  I began to see that I had something of value to contribute to this amazing veggie community.  That actually, I’d like to turn this hobby into a career.

There’s been so much going on for me over the last 12 months.  There was the end of a very loooong term relationship, I moved into my own house and am navigating shared custody of a tweenager.  It’s been tricky and scary and at times exhausting but I know deep down it was the right move for me and the kid.

Through it all my desire to really make a go of this foodie biz has only intensified.  I want to be a boss and make the kid proud.  It’s not going to be easy, but anything truly worth it never is.  I’ve got so much cooking both in my kitchen and in my head and it all starts now.  I’d love for you to come along for the ride this new year. Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Pinerest or you can subscribe to the blog so you never miss a post.  Bring it on 2020!  xx

What's Cooking: Puy Lentils

What’s cooking you ask? You know how it goes, some weeks I feel like I could take on the world whilst others…  I absolutely love cooking and sharing my recipes here with you all but for some reason this week, I honestly felt like I had nothing to say.  Like I’d used up all my words or something.  And do you know what’s even weirder? I didn’t really feel guilty about it.  For example, normally if I’m a little pressed for time or unprepared for my Monday post I will totally stress out.  I’m not quite sure what I think will happen but I made a commitment to myself when I started this journey.  Plus, I am a girl who likes routine.

Like many of life’s great revelations, I came upon the following cookbook by accident.  Browsing my local bookstore at Christmas-time for last minute gift ideas, I wandered over to the cooking isle to see what’s new.  It was there I found Smith & Daughters: A Cookbook (that happens to be vegan).  Full of deliciously innovative vegan recipes I instantly knew I needed this beauty in my collection. So… Merry Christmas to me then? 😜

What's Cooking 14

I must be one of the only people left in the world who doesn’t really have a social media profile.  I can be super shy and the thought of sharing my day to day life with the world makes me hella nervous. Honestly, if you had any idea the turmoil I went through when I was thinking about starting this blog…

The thing with social media is, it opens you up to a whole new world of possibility.  For instance, I recently joined Pinterest. As I began to engage with the app I found heaps of new foodies to be inspired by. What’s more, I discovered you don’t have to be a vegetarian to create and love veggie-centered dishes.

Today’s installation of What’s Cooking (whilst still plant-based) is a shout out to all those bloggers who love good nutritious food.  Be they veggie or not.

Strawberries and cashews

One of my favorite things about being a vegetarian is feeding people who are not.  The look of surprise on their faces never gets old.  I love it when they realise that, a)  they’re not going to go hungry, and b) the meal is going to be really yummy.  Whilst I love to create my own dishes from scratch sometimes I need a little extra inspiration.  With so many innovative vegetarian blogs around it’s easy to find the perfect dish for that special occasion.  Here’s what I’m diggin’ at the moment.
